Artscape, described as the nation’s largest free arts festival, begins tomorrow. What does that mean for us? No more parking. As Artscape takes place a few blocks from our front door, the neighborhood is jammed – but I love it. I hear complaints in the neighborhood – no parking, a lot of trash, too much noise – I love the hustle and bustle of Artscape. Granted, no parking is a problem, but it’s a nice trade for music and people. And there’s something about hundreds of people walking the streets which even makes the neighborhood feel safer…though that is certainly only perception as I saw my share of drunken fights last year.
So I am looking forward to Artscape this weekend. I and a few fellow Garden folks will be out mingling with folks and handing out some Garden info cards and maybe bottles of water – though I don’t want to make the water-people angry. Come find us.
